Time for Reflection
Snow, winter white, cold temperatures and quiet weeks; November is here! It feels like it has come upon us quickly, with fall colour and Halloween already in the past, although it seems like just yesterday that we were having fun smashing pumpkins, enjoying fall colour walks and still playing in the garden.
November tends to be the shoulder season for most gardeners. The tools have been put away, the garden put to bed, tulips planted and our basic urge to plant is more or less at rest. Not to say there aren’t plenty of ways to keep busy & create a winter container, purchase some new indoor plants, plant up an indoor fairy garden or succulent container. It’s also a good time to reflect on this year’s garden season. With Remembrance Day also occurring this month, take a moment to remember the successes and rewards of your garden, but more importantly Remember those that helped pave the way to give us the freedom to enjoy our gardens, families and well-being.
In Flanders Fields, John McCrae
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders Fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
Following this week of reflection, things will certainly ramp up to the frenzy of the holiday to come. We are excited to invite you to our annual Christmas display unveiling on Tuesday, November 14th. Our Christmas Gala is the opening night of our 15 000-square foot Christmas display! The Garden Center has been transformed into displays of magical Christmas trees, sparkling lights, welcoming Santa figures, loads of Christmas décor and so much more! Be sure to stop in for a delightful evening full of savings and good cheer!
Fresh boughs of cedar, pine, fir and hemlock are now in store, so you can get your outdoor seasonal containers, swags, wreaths and garlands created. If you need a hand, check out our ongoing workshops, but they are filling up fast so don’t wait too long! Fresh Christmas trees arrive the week of November 20th, watch for updates on our website and Facebook pages.
Enjoy this winter white November!
