Seasonal Offerings
How quickly we are back among the late summer, and early fall days of our short garden season. A cool and wet spring led the way to the record breaking temperatures that we are still experiencing. The lack of late season rain is showing on many a garden, park and landscape. Trees are yellowing early and already dropping leaves, perennials hang dry in the garden and many lawns and parks are now brown. Those areas that have been irrigated and regularly watered are like green oasis among a sea of dried plant material. These are the days that support our encouragement of deep, infrequent watering that encourages deep root growth, allowing plants to survive drought conditions.
We still have plenty of time to plant and in fact many gardeners believe that this is the best time to add perennials, sod, shrubs and trees to your yard and garden. Summer containers that are starting to look tired can be spruced up with fall mums, ornamental grasses, pansies and other late season offerings. It’s also a great time to add some seasonal flair to your container displays Fall décor, pumpkins and more are available now. This is also the time to get your bulbs planted, fall planting is required for tulips, daffodils, crocus, allium and more. With any planting, watering in well is a must and consider adding mulch to existing and new beds of perennials, shrubs and trees.
Earlier this year we had a fantastic response to our Living Green Seminars and Workshops and are happy to be offering a full line-up of great hands-on classes at our Garden Centre this fall. Fall porch pots, succulent gardens, driftwood art, fantasy mini-garden workshops and many more. Be sure to check out our Upcoming Events on our website for a full course list, check out the details on our Facebook Page or pick up a copy when you are at Blue Grass.
Summer clearance specials continue through this month, it’s a great time to save on garden décor, plant material and more. Our Weekly Features will provide you with all the current specials we have going on. Be sure to also mark your calendars for our 14th Annual Pumpkin Festival that is less than a month away on Sunday, October 8 from 11:00am to 3:00pm.
Enjoy this season of fall colour, fall festivities, back-to-school routines and more. Reap the rewards of a bountiful harvest. Rather than looking at this as the end of this years’ garden season, look now to start preparing for our next season. We still have plenty of time and many things to create, just head through your garden gate.
