Latin Name: Prunus virginiana ‘Schubert’
A small colour accent tree featuring green foliage in early spring followed by attractive deep purple foliage from mid-summer onwards, and showy chains of fragrant white flowers hanging below the branches in mid spring. The showy flowers will produce small, astringent black cherries; it Tends to sucker, and can be susceptible to black knot. The oval leaves are highly ornamental and turn an outstanding red in the fall. This plant is primarily grown as an ornamental, but it’s also valued for its edible qualities. The small round sour fruit is most often used for baking, preserves and sauces. Also available in multi-stemmed variety.
