Digging Through the Dirt
What an incredible season we have had to date, and our YYC gardeners do not seem to be slowing down. Whether it is the gardening bug that has bit hard, or the extra time at home we are seeing lots of gardeners, new and old still loading up their carts with all sorts of garden materials and more. No complaints here! Keep it coming!
We hope you’re also taking some time to enjoy the rewards of all of your efforts, and although we still could use some more heat to really help plants flourish, there is lots of great blooms and lush trees to enjoy throughout our beautiful city. Have you noticed freshly mulched beds, a decorative rock landscape or just a huge pile of beautiful soil on someone’s driveway? Ever wonder how they made it happen? Well, it all starts with the decision and understanding the process.
It can begin as simply as an idea, you need to amend your soil in the flower beds, you’ve heard us preach about mulching your gardens for better survival and lower maintenance, you want to rejuvenate your lawn, maybe you need to build a foundation for a new shed, or you’ve seen a rock-scape in your travels that you just have to replicate. There are a few ways to go about deciding what it is you need or want. You can start by checking out our website for product photos and understanding what we have to offer, everything from screened loam, compost, garden mixes, topdressing mix, natural or coloured wood mulch, fir nuggets, landscaping and decorative rock, gravels and sand. Feel free to give us a call if you need help deciding on the right product for your project. Once you have narrowed down what product you would like, you can pop by the Garden Centre to check out our bulk product displays.
Next you need to figure out how much you will need. Calculating the area you need to fill by measuring length and width of space, as well as deciding depth will give you a volume measurement. We can help you with this calculation if needed, just send us an email, or give us a call. Next, you will need to determine what limitations you may have for space and time, most of our products are available in bagged form, bulk pickup or delivery, or Handy-Cube Totes (Blue Grass Handy-Cubes contain 1-cubic yard, and generally covers 100 sq. ft at 2.5 to 3” deep).
Bagged product can be picked up in store any time, is manageable and can be taken home in your car or truck easily. Our Handy-Cubes are priced to include delivery and can be ordered online as well as in-store to be delivered within a few days, depending on delivery schedules for your area. Handy-Cube totes are a great way to keep delivered materials in a nice, tidy bag until you are ready to use it and you can take as long as you need to empty the bag. If you need a little more and prefer to get larger quantities? The biggest advantage is you are getting all your materials at once, the disadvantage may be that you will need to deal with it as soon as possible, especially if the pile blocks access to garage, back alleys or roadways. Whether you decide to pick up (we will ensure that you’re truck is not overloaded) or have it delivered (we have lots of big trucks), once again you just need to make sure you know how much you need to make sure you’ll have enough or too much to complete your project.
At Blue Grass we supply quality landscape supplies, we have been looking after homeowners, landscapers, contractors, and municipalities for 50 years! We are here to help you with all your garden projects, give us a call today!
